We were given the opportunity to watch Abominable in 4DX. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We were excited to enjoy Abominable in 4DX and 3D. As the number of homes with theater rooms have expanded, it is great to experience how movie theaters are changing to provide unique experiences for their audiences. The combination of seat motion, air, water and scents bring the movie to life.
This movie has a wide range of environments, from the loud concrete jungle full of lights to the chilling mountains, it is amazing how they can control the theater to make you feel like you are right there in the film.
The animated tale follows the story of a young girl and her friends. When they find a yeti, they have to help it get back to its home. Along the way, she finds her way home as well.
After discussing it with my daughter, Courtney, she decided she had two favorite scenes. The first was when Everest (the name the kids give the abominable snow monster) made a huge flower wave that they surfed on. The gentle swaying of the seats, cool breeze and smell of flowers tie you to the action. They do a great job of following the events as things crescendo. She also loved the blueberry scene. The seat moves to make you feel like you are avoiding the flying blueberries. As the berries hit the ground, you even experience a thumping seat like you are right in the middle of the scene.
The movie was great and the way 4DX was incorporated took it to the next level. You know it is an adventure when you leave the theater and your daughter is talking about the next movie and how much fun it would be to watch in 4DX.
If you are unfamiliar with 4DX, let me give you a few details about this amazing experience.
When you enter the theater and head to your assigned seat, the first thing you notice is that the seats are grouped into four-chair sections and that you have you pull down your footrest from the seat. Stepping up into your set is a bit reminiscent of climbing into a roller coaster. Putting your drink into the armrest, you notice a button that allows you to turn off the water spray feature.
You are immersed in the film and become part of the action. You probably have seen footage where most of the audience reacts to something surprising by pulling back in their seats. Have you ever reached over and touched someone while they were watching an intense movie moment only to have them jump out of their seat? This 4DX experience provides a very similar response.
Watching a movie in 4DX is a great interactive family entertainment experience.
