Visiting Biltmore, in Asheville, North Carolina, is a fun trip for the entire family. While there, we visited the home, gardens and Antler Hill Village.
Biltmore, the former home of George Vanderbilt, has been restored by his descendants, who take its preservation very seriously. The family has undertaken a massive effort to ensure the home is historically accurate. A trip to this amazing home is like stepping back in time.
You can tour the home on your own or rent the audio recorded tour device. We purchased this option with our admission ticket and received a discounted rate. I enjoyed roaming around the house and listening to the audio tour, which was very entertaining. In my opinion, you really need the audio tour to fully enjoy your tour around the house.
This palatial home is truly a showpiece. As I traveled to each room, I became more entranced by the home and its furnishings. It is truly a remarkable house that is set up as it was in 1895. The 250 room estate is full of intricate architectural detail and amazing antiques. Some of the rooms even feature beautiful period clothing.
Once the tour was over, we spent time at the estate’s shops, which offer everything from gourmet candy to toys. I guarantee you wont be able to leave without making a purchase. The shops are full of beautiful items.
There are also plenty of dining options on the grounds. You can easily grab a quick meal or snack before or after your tour.
We spent a half day visiting the house and shops. I could have easily spent more time wandering around the grounds and making more purchases.
